Moria’s Scar
MORIA’S SCAR
Meet the Author: Bimbo Bakare
Oluwaseun “Bimbo” Bakare is a passionate storyteller, world traveler, and keen observer of the human experience. Born and raised in Nigeria, his innate curiosity and “wanderlust spirit” were sharpened by extensive international experience with one of the world’s topmost global companies, leading him to consider himself a citizen of the world.
The Wanderlust Spirit
Inspired by the legacy of 14th-century Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta, Bimbo documents his journeys to provide valuable cultural insights. He is the author of the upcoming two-part travelogue series, Crossing Borders and Adventure Beckons: Australia from an African’s Eyes, chronicling his personal journey through the Australian outback and North-West region.
A Legacy of Resilience & Recognition
Bimbo’s writing is driven by a deep appreciation for diversity, showing that while we are all different, at our core, we are still the same.
A 2025 recipient of the Caruso Writers-in-Residence Award, he spent two weeks at the Katherine Susan Pritchard Writers’ Centre finalizing the manuscript for Moria’s Scar.
The Constant Evolution
From an aspiring aeronautical engineer to a seasoned Accountant, and now a researcher in digital forensics of autonomous vehicles, Bimbo remains bolder and more assertive. When he’s not writing or investigating digital trails, he is charting his next adventure.
What’s Next?
Bimbo is currently working on a satirical play that explores how corruption ultimately endangers society, leading to the irreparable loss of what the corrupt value most.
The Author’s Heart: A Letter of Truth
Dear Friends, Family, and Fellow Seekers of Truth,
They say time heals all wounds. But for many of us, time simply covers the wound with a thin layer of silence, leaving a scar that aches when the weather of our nation changes. For twenty-seven years, Moria lived with a physical fracture and a spiritual silence. Her return to Nigeria is not just a return to a map; it is a return to a truth buried under the cocoa farms of 1968.
A Note on Literary License
While Moria’s Scar is deeply rooted in the soil of the 1968–1969 Agbekoya Uprising, it is first and foremost a work of historical fiction. I have chosen to embrace the full breadth of literary licensure to weave a narrative that prioritizes emotional truth and the pursuit of an engaging story over a strictly factual reconstruction of events. Readers should understand that the dialogue, certain character arcs, and specific plot developments are creative imaginings designed to entertain and provoke thought, rather than to serve as an assertive historical record. My goal is to illuminate the spirit of that era through the lens of Moria’s journey, rather than to claim absolute historical correctness for every detail contained within these pages.
Perth (Pamela Watson) Review
This is an intelligent and ambitious novel. Its greatest strength lies in its refusal to simplify. It resists the easy narrative of blame and instead presents a world of overlapping pressures and imperfect actors, many of whom exhibit both good and bad traits and actions.

"A masterclass in historical fiction. Bakare doesn't just narrate history; he breathes life into the scars of the Agbekoya Uprising, turning a forgotten rebellion into a profound exploration of personal and national identity."
"Moria’s journey is heart-wrenching and yet incredibly empowering. This book captures the 'wanderlust spirit' of a survivor and the clinical precision of a truth-seeker. It is a story that stays with you long after the final page."
"Bold, assertive, and intellectually honest. By weaving the intricacies of global boardrooms with the grit of Nigerian cocoa farms, Bakare has created a narrative that is as educational as it is deeply entertaining."
Bimbo Bakare’s new novel is a brilliant tapestry of civil conflict, socioeconomic dichotomy and the cruel “fragility and fickleness of destiny”.
This work, in my limited knowledge, is a pioneering work of story telling of a civil conflict in which the hidden connections between these events are justly revealed . Every character has a unique role in revealing the nature of our society. The preponderance of good over evil , and charity over self-centeredness is evident . As I dig deep into these excerpts, I am beginning to understand while the people in diaspora are often conflicted in their perspective of our motherland . Moria’s quest to revisit the past and her methodology of reconnecting is refreshingly simple but powerful. I also notice the ever presence of opportunists even in the villages , where we see greed , impunity and oppression of few privileged individuals. The rise of just rebellion against callous policies by ordinary men of Tafa’s extraction is a reminder that we have always been republican minded people. People of good will do exist, and circumstances have ways of fishing them out. Bakare’ s skill in writing this story makes me wondering and eager to know what inspired him to embark on this literary exploit . I patiently await the complete story and the exciting dialogue that follows."Moria’s Scar captures history in an immersive and compelling way. The narrative extends beyond the Agbekoya uprising, delving not only into Moria’s personal wounds but also into the scars left by her son, making the story both historical and generational. For readers who are interested in history but often find historical texts dry or overwhelming, this work of fiction strikes a perfect balance. It keeps readers engaged while subtly enlightening them about significant historical moments and their human consequences."

Political decisions are influenced by foreign parties and business interests coming into the economy to destabilise it. For personal gain, some groups capitalise on this, and we still see it happening very much in our economy today.

🧭 Scenes from Moria's Scar
The Journey on a Mother’s Back
....a young lady, in her early 20s, tied her newborn son to her back and made the long journey from Ode-Ekiti to Elekuro, Ibadan. She arrived minutes after the Agbekoya protesters had left, barraging the household. The household, gripped by fear, left her knocks unanswered......This book is the fruit of the resilience that lady carried on her back that day
I wrote Moria’s Scar because the Agbekoya Uprising—a moment when ordinary people said "enough"—has been relegated to the footnotes of history. I wanted to pull those footnotes into the light. I wanted to explore how international power plays and boardrooms in faraway nations leave lasting marks on the bodies and souls of people like Moria.
We are not just launching a book; we are reopening a conversation. We want to recognise our past, take the good, and ensure the next generation does not have to repeat the lessons history so eagerly teaches us.
